Browder, head librarian at the Duncan Library, for their cooperation in taking care of books lent to them. Mrs. Browder and her staff are taking inventory. The section containing books related to Scouting was the only one found to be in perfect condition. It was one of the most used departments at the library. 25 Years Ago: The fourth annual Clyde Burk Memorial Invitational Calf Roping drew some big names in the rodeo game to the Clyde Burk Memorial Area. A few well-known rodeo names like Burk, Ferguson, Garrison, Ledford, Cooper, Copenhaver and Combs put up over $8,500 in prize money. 10 Years Ago: Jason Edwards, a Cub Scout Den Chief, and Courtney Hickman, a member of Dragon Patrol, took aim during an archery class, at Halliburton Park. Area Cub Scouts were attending the camp. Edwards, 14, is the son of John and Jan Edwards of Duncan; and Hickman, 9, is the son of Marvin and Velma Hickman of Duncan. Five Years Ago: Tara Timms, a barrel racer from Leading, carried the American flag during the grand entry at the Midsouth Youth Rodeo Cowboy Association’s rodeo at Claud Gill Arena. The rodeo brings in riders and ropers from throughout the region. One Year Ago: When Natalie Fitzpatrick was announced as the 2001 Rush Springs Watermelon Queen, she was only fulfilling her family duty. “My grandfather helped run the festival for years and still does help today,” she said. “Both my aunt and cousin are former watermelon queens and I was Little Miss Rush Springs a long time ago.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
