Gordon Stephens. Chamber directors voted to set up a committee to work in cooperation with church support groups of local service clubs in a summer “Go to Church” program. 25 Years Ago: It was hot, but one young Duncan resident had figured out a way to beat the heat. Tiesia Carr, 2-1/2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Carr, had the hose out to fill the swimming pool, water her parents’ lawn and maybe soak up a little of the water herself. 10 Years Ago: Centennial coloring books, with illustrations provided by local students, were available at the Duncan Centennial Store, sponsored by American National Bank and Security National Bank and Trust, the books contain 24 entries selected by a panel of judges. Five Years Ago: Strong winds and torrential downpours caused minor damage east of Marlow as a series of strong thunderstorms moved into the area. The storms brought more than an inch of rain and prompted a flash flood warning in Stephens County. One Year Ago: Linda Cornforth and Dwayne Brittain wrote names on luminaries that were lighted during the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life,” in Duncan. The lighted candles in special sacks bore the words “In honor of” or “In remembrance of” and the name of the person they honored. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
