Jess Kirkley told fellow Lions Club members. Kirkley reviewed early-day history of Duncan from research the pastor completed for a master’s degree. 25 Years Ago: Filling a swimming pool can be a long, tedious process unless outside help is available. Ronnie Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Brown, and Nancye Demerson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Demerson, discovered a fire hydrant can be used for more than putting out fires. 10 Years Ago: Stephens County Extension Agent George Provence whipped up cookie dough during a cookie-baking workshop at the fairgrounds. Keena Snyder, Amy Prader, Leigh Harrison and Amber Patterson checked the ingredients. Five Years Ago: Mattie Beth Cox, daughter of Jay and Jayne Cox of Duncan, watched as children’s illustrator Floyd Cooper signed his autograph. Cooper, along with other authors and illustrators, were in Duncan as part of a Pathways to Literacy Conference. One Year Ago: The Rev. Jody Hilliard lead prayer as members of the Duncan Garden Club Council meet at Heritage Park arboretum to honor former members. Several families from Texas also attended the annual gathering. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
