The burning tire set fire to the chicken house and it was destroyed, mites and all. Ferguson told firemen, friends had advised him the burning tire would rout mites from his poultry house. 25 Years Ago: Voter turnout was described as “heavy” as the citizens of Bray made their way to the ballot box to determine if they wanted to incorporate their community into a town. Twenty-five percent of the 200 eligible voters in the Bray area had turned out to vote in the first two hours the polls were open. 10 Years Ago: Jami Black, 15, a sophomore at Marlow High School, had been selected as a finalist in the Star Search 92 vocal talent contest. Black, daughter of Wayne and Debbie Watts, of Duncan, competed in the 10th category, one of four groups that drew more than 200 entrants. Black sang “Break It To Me Gently” during the finals competition in Wichita Falls, Texas, at Sikes Senter Mall. Five Years Ago: Ten years after a raise promised in a labor contract failed to materialize, Duncan’s firefighters were about to see some of the money. Duncan City Clerk Clyde Shaw hand-delivered a check for about $290,000 to the Stephens County Court Clerk’s office to make payment of about one-third of what the City of Duncan owes. One Year Ago: Liz Evans and Sarah Telford dried a state trooper’s car during a fund-raising car wash.
