All three county commissioners were in agreement that they would spend the $40,000 share of the proposed 5-mil levy — it the levy was approved in the election — in whatever manner the County Fair Board recommended. 25 Years Ago: Happy Days were here again on Duncan’s 85th birthday as oldtimers of the area attended an open house at Mrs. Julia Hall’s home in observance of the occasion. Mary Bray Flynn, daughter of T.W. Bray, Duncan’s second sheriff, visited with Mrs. Hall about Duncan’s early days. Mrs. Flynn said the newly incorporated town of Bray was named for her father who served as sheriff in 1914-1915. 10 Years Ago: During Duncan’s 100th birthday celebration, crowd estimates downtown ranged from 12,000 to 15,000. Charles R. Johns of Duncan was elected to serve as the vice commander of the American Legion Department of Oklahoma. Five Years Ago: Several cows north of Duncan found a way to stay cool with a wading pooling of their own. Duncan’s temperatures had been relatively mild with only three days above 90 degrees. One Year Ago: Tamaura Shelton, 5, found a cool way to beat the heat with a fruit shish-kabob at Duncan’s Heritage Day Main Street celebration. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
