She was the beloved matriarch of our family. Norma was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on July 22, 1927, to Verna and Alvis Williams. She migrated with her family members during the Dust Bowl era to Bakersfield. Mother always said, idle hands are the devils play toys, so before the disease took hold of her you could always find her working with her beloved plants or making sure the house was kept immaculate. Mom was also one of the best cooks and bakers you could have ever known. She loved being surrounded by her family and she had a hand in the daily raising of both her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who in the end returned the favor by helping to take care of her and loving their grandfather until the Lord called her away. The illness may have taken her and her mind, but it could never erase the beautiful memories we have of the times we shared with her. Norma is survived by her loving and caring husband of nearly 60 years, RC Austin who was also her main care giver during her illness; her brother, Jimmy Williams and his family; son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Barbara Austin and their children, Tiffany and Michael Austin; her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Terry Fitzwater and their daughters and extended family; Shelly Sprouse and her children, Moriah Frye and Alexis Goalwin; Tory and husband, Ken and their children, Jordan and Hallie White; Darcey and husband, Rich and their son, Jack Oldhafer. Visitation begins this morning 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd. Greenlawn Mortuary Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 12/8/2006. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
