Bui met her spouse, Thanh Pham, when she worked for his family at their restaurant in Midwest City. They married in 1993. Tram and Thanh were close to realizing their dream. They ran their own restaurant in Seminole, then in February moved to Marlow and opened the Golden Palace Restaurant. During their union, Bui and Pham were blessed with two children - 3-year- old Olivia and 2-year-old Jeremy. But the couple's dreams were dashed May 3 when the family was returning home to Marlow. While traveling on Interstate 35 in Moore, they were confronted by the powerful tornado that devastated the area. Pham and Bui tried to take cover under an overpass at Shields Boulevard, but Bui was unable to reach safety and was swept away by the whirling winds as her husband protected their children. Bui had been missing until Wednesday evening, when two women discovered her remains buried in mud and debris near Interstate 35. An army of searchers had been looking for Bui's body since the storm. The state medical examiner's office confirmed Thursday that the body was Bui. Joyce Davis of Marlow, a friend of Bui's, said Bui will be missed greatly by the community. "She was real energetic, and she loved her customers," Davis said. "It was like they were family. She gave the impression that she felt she had to take care of them. "I'm going to miss being able to go in and see her pretty smile. She would sing to us. It was so pretty. My comfort is knowing she's in a far better place." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
