Bethany Charles Darrell "C.D." Bethany of Duncan died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in Duncan Regional Hospital after a short illness. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Don Gran-tham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Sou-therland officiating. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery. C.D. was born Feb. 26, 1905, in Harrison, Ark., to Charles and Lizzy Bethany. He moved to Duncan at the age of nine where he lived east of town until his death on Sunday at the age of 98. He attended Tucker School. On May 29, 1924, he married Gladys Jennings in Duncan. She worked with her husband farming and ranching in Stephens County all of their married life. The couple celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 1999, just before Mrs. Bethany’s death on Aug. 26, 1999. The couple had one son, Jack, who preceded his parents in death on July 5, 1984. C.D. was a life-long farmer and rancher in the Duncan area. Never one to retire, he continued to work on the family farm until his late 80s. He was a man tall in stature and big of heart and one who left a strong legacy of family devotion. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Rowena Bethany of Duncan; two grandsons and their wives, Jack Jr. and Carol Bethany of Muskogee and Jim and Janis Bethany of Duncan; four great-grandchildren, Josh Bethany of Monterey, Calif., Jill Bethany of Stillwater, Jordan Grovenburg and Jenna Bethany of Duncan; two great-great- grandchildren, Dilan Grovenburg of Duncan and Alexis Bethany of Monterey; and a special niece, Helen Presgrove of Duncan. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Wayne Bethany on June 18, 2000. Bearers will be Shorty Brown, Darryl Gowan, Rusty England, Tom Berniger, Rusty Harris and Howard Wayne Harris. Honorary bearers are Howard Cummins, Newt McLain, Allen Ray smith and Gayle McCullough. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church West Building Fund, P.O.
