All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== :Duncan Cemetery - Duncan OK Duncan Banner 23 May 2002 Calvin Burkhalter Calvin Burkhalter, 89, of Duncan died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, in his home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan with the Rev. John David Croy officiating. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery. Mr. Burkhalter was born Aug. 20, 1912, in Tipton to David Roberson and Lee Anna King Burkhalter. He married Maggie Elizabeth Pettie on March 31, 1950, in Charleston, W.Va., and she preceded him in death in 1996. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater in the Third Fleet with Admiral Halsey in seven major engagements. After his time in the service, he was employed for 30 years as a psychology professor at the Glenville Community College in Glenville, W.Va. He was a member of the Beta Phi Chapter of the Phi Delta fraternity. Following his retirement, he became an accomplished musician and avid painter. Survivors include two stepsons, Bob Cook of Houston and Blaine Cook of Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister, Wanda Mae Croy of Duncan; eight grandchildren; and 34 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters; and a daughter, Jacklyn Proffitt.
