All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Duncan City Cemetery--Duncan OK Duncan Banner 22 Apr 2003 Gertrude Barber Ruby Gertrude "Gertie" Barber, 96, passed away peacefully at her home, to meet her Lord and family, after a short illness, on Monday, April 21, 2003. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with pastors Randy Southerland, Tommy Billings and Jack Robbins co- officiating. Interment will be in Duncan Cemetery. Gertie entered this earth June 8, 1906, in Cornish, Indian Territory, the second child of Charley Levy and Myrtle Mae Thompson Proctor. She grew up in the Hastings area and attended Belcher Hill School. She married Fern Barber on Dec. 18, 1926, in Waurika. They moved from Hastings in 1942, and became members of Immanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Barber was a devoted and dedicated mother and grandmother who loved her family and friends. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Jerry Barber of Comanche; a daughter, Valda Rhea Clarke of Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Odessa McClarty of Hastings; four grandchildren, Dr. Lynn Barber and his wife, Pat, of Comanche, Tammy Duke and her husband, Raymond, of Terral, Alan Clarke and his wife, LeeAnn, of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Greg Clarke and his wife, Dennette, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; great- grandchildren, Tammy-Lynne Rodgers and her husband, Anthony, Jeremy Duke, Zachary and Kelsey Barber, Alexa Rae Clarke and Brittanie and Makenzie Grace Clarke; two great-great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Kortney Rodgers; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fern, on April 17, 1948; three brothers; two sisters; a step sister; three step brothers; a son-in-law, Phil Clarke; and her caregiver, Viola Barber. Bearers will be her nephews, Bill Griffin, E.J. Proctor, Bobby Beaves, C.L.
