All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 1 Dec 2002 Dr. George Edward Bryan Dr. George Edward Bryan, 84 years of age, was a loving and devoted husband; a nurturing, patient father, grandfather and great-grandfather; and a man who lived his faith in God. He died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Duncan. Memorial service is pending with Bailes-Polk Funeral Home of Duncan. It will be held at First Christian Church. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery. He was born on Aug. 30, 1918, to Pearl Ester and Alfred Sumner Bryan in Davenport, Iowa. He obtained a B. S. degree from Jefferson City College and a doctorate degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo. He served his internship at Lakeside Hospital in Kansas City and was the resident physician at Hinton Community Hospital in Hinton from 1944 to 1951. Dr. Bryan and his wife, Lois, of 59 years, moved to Duncan on Aug. 1, 1951, where he practiced medicine and served the community of Duncan until his retirement in 1986. He was the president of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association from 1966 to 1967, and president of the Oklahoma Osteopathic Educational Foundation from 1982 to 1983. He received the Outstanding and Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association in 1987. Dr. Bryan was a Past-Worshipful Master of the Hinton Masonic Lodge in 1950. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club, Elks Club and Moose Lodge. Throughout his life, Dr. Bryan served his Lord and church whenever needed. He attended the First Christian Church of Duncan. He is survived by his two children, Dr. Suzanne Bryan of Duncan and Dr. George E Bryan II of Prescott, Ariz.; his sisters, Frances Clark of Duncan and Margaret Raithel of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Doris McPike of Frankfort, Ill., and June Forrestal of Comanche.
