All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Duncan Cemetery--Duncan OK Duncan Banner 31 Mar 2003 Edna Ruth Barnes Edna Ruth Barnes, 92, of Duncan, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in the Chisholm Trail Assisted Living Center. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Edna Ruth was born May 27, 1910, in Spickard, Mo., to Kelly and Nora Hill Buckland. She married Clifford H. Barnes in January 1931 and he preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Barnes was a Sunday School teacher at Immanuel Baptist Church for 55 years. She started a class at the church for women without partners and it grew into a large organization. She was a talented artist and displayed her artwork in various art shows. She was the author of two books about her life and also a book of poems. She was a member of the Art Guild and various other clubs and organizations in Duncan. Mrs. Barnes also played the organ for various groups in Duncan. A devout Christian, loving mother and grandmother, Ruth was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, C.H. Barnes of Duncan, Chuck and Carol Barnes of Grand Prairie, Texas, Ed and Ann Barnes of Fort Worth, Texas, Doug Barnes of Lexington, Ky., and Ardythe Barnes of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Jami; six grandsons, Craig, Brett, Paul, Gregory, Jeff and Todd; two wives of grandsons, Leigh and Kristal; and three great- grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ben Barnes, in 1996.
