All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::North Kern District Cemetery--Delano CA Beene, Burl Burl Beene Jan. 9, 1921 - June 23, 2007 Burl Beene went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Delano Regional Medical Center. She was born in Marlow, Oklahoma on January 9, 1921, moving to McFarland, CA, in 1936, where she graduated from McFarland High School in 1938. She married Autry Lee Beene in 1941. They moved to Vallejo, CA, while working in the shipyards during WWII she became one of the original "Rosie, the Riveters". Following the war they moved back to the Delano area where they engaged in farming for many years. Poor health forced Autry Lee to retire and it was at that time that Burl purchased Lyon's dress store. In 1948 Burl became a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of McFarland serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Secretary of the church for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Autry Lee Beene; her parents, L.L. and Della Thomasson; her sisters, Pauline T. Hampton, Murl Christolear; brothers, Laymon Thomasson; and Brooks Thomasson. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Missionary Baptist Church of McFarland. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007, at 9:30 a.m., at the First Missionary Baptist Church, McFarland. Burial to follow at the North Kern District Cemetery in Delano.
