Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Carter Smart Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Winston Curtis officiating. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery. She was born to Robert J. Lester and Nancy Bell Dowlen Lester on March 9, 1903, near Corum, Indian Territory. She attended Duncan Public Schools and had a happy childhood surrounded by a large, loving family. She was the first-born of seven children and often went with her father to watch him cry sales as the area auctioneer. She married Troy Parks Coker in 1921. They traveled to Colorado, and points in between, to work the oil field boom. Returning to Duncan, they settled into farming and ranching in the Empire area. To this union was born three sons and one daughter. Her acceptance of Jesus was made early in life and her membership is in the Fair Baptist Church. She was also a perpetual member of the Order of Eastern Star, Duncan Chapter No. 39. Her grandchildren looked forward to times with "Ninnie" because they knew she would have lots of treats for them. This was true for anyone who might drop in, to see coffee and cake ready to serve. Survivors include Troy P. Coker Jr. and his wife, Kay, Lloyd L. Coker, Charles R. Coker and his wife, Martha, and Glenda M. Coker, all of Duncan. She also has six grandchildren, Troy Parks Coker III of Dallas, Texas, James Robert Coker and Jera Ann Alcorn of Duncan, Stewart L. Coker of Edmond, Doug Coker of Davis, and David Allen Coker of Pauls Valley; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; three brothers; three sisters; a grandson; and a daughter-in-law. Bearers will be her grandsons. The family would like to thank the management and staff of the Meridian Nursing Home for six years of patient, loving care. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
