All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Bakersfield Californian Troy Lee Calhoun June 19, 1916-May 30, 2001 Troy Lee Calhoun was born to John and Florance Calhoun on June 19, 1916 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his mother Florance Howard, father John Calhoun, brothers Roy and Vernon Calhoun of Chickasha, OK. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anna Skelton Calhoun. He had no children of his own, but leaves behind step-daughter, Evelyn Beaty Ornelas and son in law, John Ornelas. Troy was a very proud grandpa of six grandchildren. They are Theresa Flores, Victoria and Ron Casteel, Jon Luisa Ornelas, Gail and Tyler Cannon, Mark and Nolberty Ornelas and Lisa and Rick Linares. He has 14 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren of Bakersfield. He also leaves behind nieces, Joann Harper and Jan Hass of Midwest City, Ok; nephews, Berry Hass of Dallas, TX, Kenneth Calhoun of Midwest City, Ok; as well as sisters in law, Opal Calhoun of Chickasha, Ok and Betty Calhoun of Midwest City, Ok. Troy was an Army veteran of WWII. Serving in the army from 1942-1946. His earliest job was at the Harvey house on 18th Street in 1941 and after his Army service he became a baker for Smiths Bakery. Holding this job for more than 31 years he was one of the first to make the now famous Champagne Cake. He retired from Smith in 1978. Becoming a Christian as a very young man, Troy attended the Rexland Assembly of God Church. There he served the Lord as an Elder, Sunday school teacher, Deacon and loved board member. Please join the family on Monday, June 4 at 10 a.m. for services to be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary Chapel.
