Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Fifth Street Baptist Church in Marlow with James Croswell and David Standifer officiating. Burial will be in Bailey Cemetery in Grady County, under the direction of Callaway-Smith- Cobb Funeral Home of Marlow. Laura was born Jan. 1, 1912, in the Purdy community, to Elmer and Effie Selby Bowman. She attended school at Oak Grove. She married Louis Frank Cowan on Oct. 24, 1928, in Marlow. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1964. Mrs. Cowan lived in Marlow for 91 years. She retired from Bray schools where she worked as a cook. She was a member of Fifth Street Baptist Church and was a former member of Bray Missionary Baptist Church for 40 years. Mrs. Cowan enjoyed quilting and gardening, especially veggies, fruit and flowers. She enjoyed cooking yeast rolls, peach cobbler and chicken fried steak. She liked canning, sewing and crocheting. Survivors include a grandson, Gary Worden and his wife, Nancy, of Marlow; three granddaughters, Gail Hallmark and her husband, Benny, of Chickasha, Karen Keese and her husband, Gary, and Kathy Garner and her husband, Steve, all of Houston, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Kevin Worden and his wife, Missie, Kyler Hallmark, Katie, Kristie and Kellie Keese and Abby Garner; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Kade Worden. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Loyd Cowan; two daughters, Armelda Worden and Leita Faye Cowan; three brothers, Horace, Tad Carl and Clarence Bowman; four sisters, Naomi Bowman, Ruby Crawford, Hattie Reese and Lois Riddles.
