"Rusty" Cowart, 84, of Duncan, who died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, are pending with Don Grantham Funeral Home. ========= Duncan Banner 26 Aug 2002 Glen W. ‘Rusty’ Cowart Glen W. "Rusty" Cowart, 84, of Duncan died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Duncan. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Meador officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lake Forrest, Ill. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Cowart was born Sept. 15, 1917, in San Saba, Texas, to Dean Thomas and Viola Matlock Cowart. He attended Dallas schools and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1941, where he was a member of the 1938 national championship football team. He married Jean Moroney of Highland Park, Ill., on July 12, 1942, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. Cowart was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a manufacturing representative for many years before moving from Lubbock to Duncan in 1968. He was the owner and operator of Western Steel Supply Co. in Marlow before retirement in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; two daughters and a son-in- law, Patty Key of Dallas, Texas, and Pam and Jim Goss of Murphy, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Jane Cowart of Dallas; a sister, Imogene Thompson of Dallas; three granddaughters, Tracy Key, Amy Key Sizemore and Erin Goss; and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Grace Sizemore. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bettye Gomez. Honorary bearers are Jim Goss, Ben Gray and Malcom Sizemore.
