Services were held on Thursday, January 2, 2003 in the Chapel at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home with burial in the Marlow Cemetery. She was born July 13, 1909 at Alma, the last child of Reverend George W. and Julia McDow. She married Clifford (Gube) Carter in 1923 and their union was to last 69 years until his death in 1992. She has lived in the surrounding areas all her life, rearing her family at Bailey, Beasly and Cox City, moving into Marlow in 1962. Nellie was a homemaker and when younger very devoted to her Christian work. She was a charter member of the Cox City Baptist Church and was a member of the First Baptist in Marlow. The Lord commands us to love one another as he loves us. Nellie tried to instill in us that unity is family and family is love. Surely she is now rejoicing in Heaven with the loved ones who were there to greet her and welcome her home. She was preceded in death by her husband Gube; oldest daughter Doris; grandson Richard; great-grandchildren Heidi and Robert; sons- in-law Marion, Howard and Chet. She leaves behind daughters and their spouses joyce and Del Inglis; Lois and Eugene Green; six grandchildren Marion, Dan, Jesse, Mary Nell, LaDonna and Tom; thirteen great- grandchildren; eleven great- great-grandchildren; and a sister Willie Wood. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons.
