Mrs. Carter was born July 13, 1909, in Alma, the last child of the Rev. George W. and Julia McDow. She married Clifford "Gube" Carter in 1923 and their union was to last 69 years until his death in 1992. She has lived in the surrounding areas all her life, rearing her family at Bailey, Beasly and Cox City, moving into Marlow in 1962. She was a homemaker, and when younger, very devoted to her Christian work. She was a charter member of Cox City Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church in Marlow. "The Lord commands us to love one another as He loves us." Nellie tried to instill in us that unity is family and family is love. Surely she is now rejoicing in Heaven with the loved ones who were there to greet her and welcome her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gube; her oldest daughter, Doris; a grandson, Richard; two great-grandchildren, Heidi and Robert; and sons-in-law, Marion, Howard and Chet. She leaves behind daughters and their spouses, Joyce and Del Inglis and Lois and Eugene Green; six grandchildren, Marion, Dan, Jesse, Mary Nell, LaDonna and Tom; 13 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Willie Wood.
