All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Rush Springs Cemetery--Rush Springs OK Lawton Consititution 15 Sep 2005 Leota Lee Davis Funeral for Leota Lee Davis, 82, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Gary W. Cook, pastor, and David Hale, pastor, Vimy Ridge Baptist Church, Rush Springs, officiating. Mrs. Davis died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at her home. Burial will be in Rush Springs Cemetery, Rush Springs, under direction of Becker Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 22, 1922 to the Rev. William Eldred and Alma Lorene Young Smith in Marlow. She moved with her family at age six to Troop, Texas. The family moved back to Marlow in 1930. She attended Marlow Schools and graduated with the class of 1942. She worked at the Marlow Bus Station and helped take care of her parents. She married Frank Alvin Davis on Nov. 25, 1949. He died Oct. 18, 1989. The family lived near Marlow from 1949 to 1957, then lived at the Gillespie Ranch near Tishomingo from 1957 to 1963. On June 1, 1963, they moved to the Spencer Bernard Farm east of Rush Springs. During this time, she started to work as a domestic engineer and during the fall worked at Bernard Enterprises. She worked at the "Peanut Plant" for 36 years, and had to quit due to failing health. Her husband retired in February 1989 and they moved to Robinson's Landing by Lake Lawtonka. After her husband's death, she moved into Lawton to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a volunteer at Reynolds Army Community Hospital working mostly in the inpatient records section with the release of information/correspondence. She began volunteering in the Occupational Health Clinic doing administrative tasks. She continued to volunteer until her recent bout with cancer. She was inducted into the Volunteer Hall of Fame in 1993, and every year since then. She was a member of the Slaton Home Demonstration Club and Order of Eastern Star Marlow Chapter 38. She was a member of Marlow Cumberland Presbyterian Church and attended Lawton First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Loy Burnett, Lawton; a sister, Mary Belle Griggs, Lawton; a sister-in-law, Rose Orene Smith; a niece, Melodie Wonderly and her husband, Roger, Oklahoma City; a nephew, Kevin Smith and his wife, Kathy, Oklahoma City; sisters and brothers-in- law: Gladys Nix, Hattie Bowman, Nora McCarty, Peggy and Ernest Alexander, M.B. "Mutt" and Lucille Davis, and Joe and Nellie Davis; and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, and a brother. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, P.O.
