Burial will be in Marlow Cemetery. ========= Duncan Banner 16 Oct 2002 Oris James Davis Oris James Davis, 73, of Duncan died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Duncan. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Bradley and the Rev. John Cullen officiating. Burial will be in Marlow Cemetery. Mr. Davis was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Marlow, to Oris J. and Mary Ruth Monds Davis. He married Joy Ellen Cargill in 1954, in Marlow. Mr. Davis was saved at the age of 12 years at Faith Baptist Church in Marlow. He graduated from Marlow High School in 1946, attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee and the Stamps-Baxter School of Music in Dallas. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Navy. He was employed with Halliburton Services from 1952 to 1986, retiring as production scheduler. Mr. Davis served as a trustee of Oklahoma Missionary Baptist College in Marlow for 42 years (1956-1998), holding the office of secretary. He also served as president of Stephens County Singing Convention. As a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Duncan, he was very active as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, music director, Baptist Training Class teacher and Sunday School superintendent. Survivors include his wife, Joy, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael James and Karen Davis of Marlow; two brothers, Dale E. Davis of Marlow and Leland Davis of Magnolia, Ark.; a sister, Evelyn Thompson of Mountain View; two grandchildren, Christopher Michael and Kara Lynn Davis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Davis James and Dean James; and a granddaughter, Melissa James. Bearers will be Jerry Howell, Eddie Harrell, Roger Peck, Rick Minter, Ray Hale and Lynn Davenport. Honorary bearers are the Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church, Trustees of Oklahoma Missionary Baptist College, Dr. Edwards, Dr. Gregg, Brother Croswell and Robert Davenport.
