Edwards Avo Mary Edwards, long time Stephens County resident, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, in Houston, Texas, after a long illness. Mrs. Edwards was born on the family farm, west of Comanche, on Jan. 9, 1916. She was the daughter of G.O. and Mary Conover. After graduating from Comanche High School, she married Clarence A. Edwards on June 16, 1934, and he preceded her in death in 1973. Mrs. Edwards lived in Stephens County until 2000 when she moved to Houston, to be near her sons. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Duncan, Stephens County Coin Club, Sew Some Club, and was active in helping establish the Stephens County Museum. Mrs. Edwards enjoyed her volunteer work at the church, gardening, collecting coins, researching her families historical ties to Stephens County, and most of all she enjoyed her family and friends. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Glen and Marjorie Edwards of Hockley, Texas, and Larry and Amelou Edwards of Katy, Texas; one grandson and granddaughter-in-law J.T. and Amy Edwards of Austin, Texas; and two grandchildren, Victoria Harris of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Jeffrey Todd Edwards of Austin, Texas. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Carter Smart Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Buddy Miller, Buddy Hokit, Ronnie Hokit, Billy Clyde Edwards, Gail Davis and Billy Jack Morgan.
