The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== Surnames: Ely, Stahl, Monds, Carter Addison Van "Doc" Ely of Velma, born Sept.14 1909 in Major County to James Alexander and Effie Mae Stahl Ely, died March 28 1999 in Oklahoma City. He married Evelyn Monds on Dec. 24 1931. He was saved in a Brush Arbor meeting in the summer of 1937, helped reorganize the Baptist Church and move it to its present location. He and brother Marion, started the Velma Rodeo in conjunction with the Velma Old Timers Picnic in 1931 and continued to be arena director and furnish cattle for more than 40 years. He took up golf in his 60's and played a role in the development of the Wildhorse Golf Course in Velma. He was an honorary coach for the Velma-Alma High School girls basketball team.. In his retirement years he raised long horn cattle and a big garden. Survivors include his wife of the home, one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Larry Carter of Wichita KS., one son and daughter-in-law Lloyd and Sheila Ely of Velma, six grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services was in the Velma Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Robbins and Pastor Brad Reimers officiating. Burial was in the old Velma Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. --------------------------------------------------------------------
