All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== :Fort Sill National Cemetery--Elgin OK Duncan Banner 19 Sep 2002 Bryant Elkins LAWTON — Bryant Elkins, 77, of Duncan died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Duncan. Graveside service, with Navy honors, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Fort Sill National Cemetery, near Elgin. Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Mr. Elkins was born Jan. 2, 1925, on the family farm in Sugden, to Robert and Mary Elkins. He attended school in Waurika and joined the United States Navy in 1942. He served on the USS Tatum as a Chief Machinist Mate. In 1947, he left the Navy and went to work in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Shop at Sheppard Air Force Base. He joined the Naval Reserves and was called back to service when the Korean War broke out. After the war he returned to Sheppard Air Force Base until his retirement in January of 1973. He married Velda Marie "Susie" Green Beaver on Dec. 30, 1966, in Waurika. Bryant and Velda lived in Waurika, Hot Springs, Ark., Longview, Texas, and returned to Duncan in 1987. He loved family gatherings, playing snooker and reminiscing with Navy buddies. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters and sons- in-law, Teresa and Keith Kelman of Lawton, Lynn and Pratt Wauqua of Elgin, Cheryl and Neal Rollins of Menasha, Wis., and Cheryl and Steve Moreland of Colleyville, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Hollye Beaver of McAlister, 15 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
