Gibson, (Master Sergeant, U.S. Army, retired), 66, of Sierra Vista, [Cochise county] Arizona, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. He had been a resident of Sierra Vista for 22 years. Perry was born Aug. 11, 1940, in Marlow, [Stephens county] Oklahoma, to Leo Perry and Ova Marie (Love) Gibson. A gifted athlete in high school, Perry lettered in tennis, baseball, basketball and football. As a halfback, he earned a scholarship to Northwestern University in Louisiana in 1958. Unhappy that freshmen were not allowed to play varsity football at that time, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He embarked on a 26-year career and served one tour in Vietnam. He retired as a master sergeant from Fort Huachuca, Ariz., in 1986. He married Dorothea Vera on March 7, 1968. He remained active in league bowling and playing golf. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend who will be missed. Perry is survived by his daughter, three grandchildren, all of Sierra Vista; a sister, of Gilmer, Texas; a brother, of Copperas Cove, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothea. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at the Hatfield Memorial Chapel, 830 S. Highway 92, in Sierra Vista. Interment with military honors will be Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Post Cemetery, Fort Huachuca.
