All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 20 Jun 2002 Edith Ruth Johnson Service for Edith Ruth Johnson, 95, of Duncan, who died today in Duncan, is pending with Don Grantham Funeral Home. ========= Duncan Banner 21 Jun 2002 Edith Ruth Johnson Edith Ruth Johnson, 95, of Duncan died Thursday, June 20, 2002, in Duncan. Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 12, 1906, in Duncan to Luther and Mary Qualls Weatherly. She was the oldest of six children. She went to school in Ryan, where she met Vernal C. Johnson. One day when she drove her Model T into the ditch and it rolled, she got out and rolled it back over and took off. He decided then he liked her spunk, and they were married June 14, 1924. Mrs. Johnson was very civic minded and loved Duncan. She was always passing petitions to get someone elected to public office or to bring about a needed change for Duncan. During World War II, she volunteered at the Ration Board, and she worked diligently for over 20 years for the Girl Scouts. She was a charter member of the FLC Study Club, and active in the Rose Unit Garden Club. She was active in Shakespere Club, and generously opened her lovely home for meetings and parties. She was always a gracious hostess. She was a successful interior decorator in Duncan for over 40 years. She loved to travel and pretty well covered the globe. Survivors include a daughter, Ruthie Wildman and her husband, Lester, of Tulsa; three sisters, Mrs. John (Virginia) DeSilva of Duncan, Mrs. Bill (Jeanne) Pearsall of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Elbert (Jerry) Lindley of Stephenville, Texas; four granddaughters, Mrs. John (Nancy) Thompson of Rockport, Texas, Mrs. Ray (Candy) LuMaye of Vacaville, Calif., Paula Robinson of Tulsa and Mrs. Brad (Nanette) Clark of Edmond; seven great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 21, 1985; a son, Sam Johnson; a brother, Clyde Weatherly and a sister, Mrs. Troy (Fern) Bowden. Bearers will be John Robinson, Jerry Farris, Billy Pearsall, Joe Pearsall, Nicholas Clark and Nathan Clark. Honorary bearers are Elbert Lindley, Jack DeSilva and W.J. Pearsall.
