All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 7 Sep 2003 Randy Lyn Lawrence Randy Lyn Lawrence, 54, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003. He was born on Jan. 20, 1949, to Edgar and Bettye Lawrence. He leaves behind many loved ones, friends, fellow coaches and students whom he tremendously influenced throughout his career as a coach and teacher. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1967, where he was an All-State tackle and played in the All-State Game and the Oil Bowl. His outstanding college career began at SMU, where he received many honors and played in the Astro Bluebonnet Bowl. He then went on to Southwestern; there he received such honors as All-Conference Lineman, All-American and Lineman of the Year. He taught at Crooked Oak, Del City, Velma, Newcastle, Choctaw and Jones during his 30 years as a teacher and coach. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, riding in his golf cart, playing poker, shooting targets and enjoying the outdoor patio and deck he had built. He is survived by his wife, Lella; his parents; a daughter, Sheila Lawrence; a son, Jay Lawrence; two brothers, Rick Lawrence and his wife, Kathy, and Rodd Lawrence; two nephews, Russell Lawrence and his wife, Stephanie, and Robert Lawrence; three stepchildren, Tim Murfin, Karie Votaw and her husband, Mitch, Angela Richards and her husband, Jeff; and five granddaughters, Lauren, MicCayla, Madison, Markie and Emily, who will greatly miss their "Pa Randy." A memorial service was to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Newcastle United Methodist Church.
