The memorial service for Ruby A. Mason will be at 10:30 a.m. today, 
Aug. 8, at the Ashland United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mason, 95, of Ashland, died Saturday (Aug. 4, 2001) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Education Fund, 
at the Methodist Church, 175 N. Main, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born Nov. 13, 1905, in Marlow, Oklahoma Territory, a daughter 
of Benjamin and Julia Powell. Her family traveled by covered wagon 
from Oklahoma to Lakeview, where they lived for one year before 
moving to Ashland. In 1932, in Ashland, she married George S. Mason, 
who died Nov. 8, 1996. They were married for 63 years.

Mrs. Mason attended National Training School in San Francisco. She is 
a 1925 graduate of Southern Oregon Normal School. She taught school 
in a one-room schoolhouse at Griffin Creek. When it burned down, she 
taught in a living room. She taught fourth grade at the former 
Washington School, now called Briscoe. She stopped teaching when she 
married, because a married woman was not allowed to teach. 

Survivors include two sons, David, Ashland, and Dean, Hermiston; a 
daughter, Marilee Titus, Lakewood, Wash.; a brother Lawrence Powell; 
seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller Simnonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, 
Ashland.
