"Sonny" McNeill, 73, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in University Church of Christ in Canyon with David Lough officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. McNeill was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Duncan, Okla., to John Robert and Allie Augusta Block McNeill. He attended Amarillo High and was in the class of 1949. He married Tressa Jeanetta Smith at Clovis, N.M., in 1948. He lived in Amarillo and worked at American Zinc and Refinery. He moved to Wayside, where he ranched, farmed and also owned and operated McNeill Flying Service for a long time. He served on the Happy School Board for several years and was a member of Toastmasters International. He also served as a deacon at University Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mona Hager, in 1987. Survivors include his wife; six sons, Dave McNeill of Muleshoe, Dudley McNeill and Walter McNeill, both of Happy, Jim McNeill and Tim McNeill, both of Fort Worth, and Warren McNeill of Lubbock; two brothers, Wayne McNeill of Happy and Bud McNeill of Alabama; a sister, Sweetie Sternenberg of Canyon; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Sonny McNeill India Missions, in care of University Church of Christ, 3400 Connor Drive, Canyon, TX 79015.
