All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 27 Jan 2003 Cornelia Elizabeth Thomas McMurtry Cornelia Elizabeth Thomas McMurtry, 90, of Duncan died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, in Duncan. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with Darren Speed officiating. Burial will be in the New Velma Cemetery. Cornelia was born April 26, 1912, near Lindsay, to Joseph and Mary Thomas. She married Jim McMurtry on Oct. 19, 1929. They were married 58 years before he died in 1987. Four children were born of this marriage, Mary Cleo McMurtry, who was stillborn, James Henry McMurtry, Sylvia Earline England and Anna Lorene Speed. Mrs. McMurtry was a homemaker. She had four sisters and two brothers and lived in the Duncan area all of her life. She accepted Jesus as her Savior early in life and was of the Holiness faith. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Marylyn McMurtry of Longview, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Rusty England of Duncan and Anna and Art Speed of Tulsa; a sister, Willie Sheffield of Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Jess Thomas of Duncan; seven grandchildren, Jimmy McMurtry of Bailey, Texas, Karen Hatler of Katy, Texas, Sharon Lynch of Carthage, Texas, Rusty England and Kathy Palacol, both of Duncan, and Carla Ragsdale and Darren Speed, both of Tulsa; 16 great-grandchildren, Lauren Godsey and Jordan Hatler, both of Katy, Ryan Easter and Megan Easter, both of Carthage, Sally England, Katie England, Maggie England, Trey Palacol, Clint Palacol and Kyle Palacol, all of Duncan, Grant Ragsdale, Adam Ragsdale, Rachel Ragsdale, Morgan Speed, Alex Speed and Ethan Speed, all of Tulsa; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Lynn Speed.
