All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Hope Cemetery--Hope OK Duncan Banner 04 May 2003 Thomas Eugene Pack Service for Thomas Eugene Pack, 80, of Duncan, who died Friday, May 2, 2003, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Alex Costea officiating. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Thomas was born Oct. 22, 1922, to Charlie Andrew and Myrtle Mae Mauldin Pack. He was one of five sons. All five of them graduated from Duncan High School, where they all participated in sports. Thomas lettered in football, basketball and track. He played American Legion baseball, too, and was pitcher. He also was on a county boxing team, and won the middleweight boxing championship in France while he was overseas during World War II. On Dec. 26, 1941, he married Mary Opal Legg, his high-school sweetheart, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage on Dec. 26, 2002. Mr. Pack was called to serve his country on Jan. 21, 1943. He was attached to the 206th Army Engineers making the D-Day crossing, and he served under General Patton. In the Battle of the Bulge, he received a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement. He returned home in December 1945. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. from 1946 to 1982, 37 1/2 years, and was commercial supervisor in Stillwater from 1973 to 1977. Mr. Pack was a member of First United Methodist and Stephens United Methodist Churches for 61 years. The Packs were charter members of the Wesleyan Class at First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Opal, of the home; a son, Thomas Eugene Pack II of Woodward; four sisters-in-law, Mable Ray and Jeane Pack of Duncan, Martha Duke of Marlow, Dorothy White of Moore; five grandchildren, Wendy Savage of Dallas, Jay Savage and William Ryan Wilcox of Duncan, Jason and Stephen Pack of Woodward. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis June Savage Wilcox, age 46, on May 7, 2001.
