"Don" Powell, 79, of Duncan died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 in Duncan. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche. Mr. Powell was born March 31, 1923, in Wheeler, Texas, to John Thomas and Jose White Powell. He married Wanda Jo Montgomery on Feb. 9, 1946, in Duncan. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was self-employed as an insurance adjuster working catastrophe situations and retired in 1985. He enjoyed fishing and traveling and attended the Parkview Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Jo, of the home; a son, Donley Leon Powell and his wife, Kaye, of Modesta, Calif.; special cousins, Bob and Jean Montgomery of Duncan; two grandchildren, Bill Powell and his wife, Sonia, of Modesto, Calif., and Brian Powell of Eureka, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Mason and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by her parents. Bearers will be Tom Montgomery, Paul Baker, Larry Powell, Joe Vermedahl, Todd Lilly and Chad Couch. Honorary bearers will be Bob Montgomery, Charles Rucker and Jack Hartman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chisholm Trail Hospice, P.O.
