All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== James Elmo Sims James Elmo Sims, 81, of Amarillo died Monday, March 8, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Jeff Conway, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Sims was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Comanche, Okla. He married Betty Jo Lang on March 15, 1941. Mr. Sims proudly served as a Merchant Marine in the Coast Guard during World War II. Then Betty and he moved to Amarillo in 1948, where he operated Jerry's Cleaners until 1977. In 1978, Mr. Sims became an employee with Amarillo National Bank, where he worked for 14 years. Following his retirement in 1991, he soon returned to the bank to become a part-time greeter, where he enjoyed interacting with and assisting the clients and guests of the bank. Mr. Sims truly loved working at the bank. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years in October 2002; and a son, Mike Sims in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Kaye Smith of Corpus Christi; a sister, Estalline Ridley of Duncan, Okla.; four grandchildren, Lori Hanagriff and Leslie Moritz, both of Houston, John Mays of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Janet Mays of Denver; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsey Moritz. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176.
