Smith, Slada

Slada was welcomed into Heaven on September 18, 2006, at the age of 
93. Born March 1, 1913, in Marlow, OK. She moved from Oklahoma to 
Arvin, CA in 1936 with her husband, Sherman and their two daughters. 
Later relocating to Bakersfield where she would spend the rest of her 
life. Slada was the ultimate homemaker, who was known for her 
wonderful cooking and sewing abilities. She contributed to the 
household income by working in the local packing sheds. But her main 
purpose in life was her family. She is preceded in death by her 
husband, Sherman Smith 1970; and grandsons, Eddie Houser and Chad 
Albitre. Slada is survived by her daughters, Billie Aldridge Dresser, 
and Phyllis Costa; 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 25 great-
great-grandchildren; brother, Truman Lakin; and numerous nieces and 
nephews. She will always be remembered for her devotion to her 
family. Our memories of you will live in our hearts forever. "Until 
we meet again." Rest in peace. We love you. Visitation will be held 
on Thursday, September 21st, from 6-8 p.m., at Kern River Family 
Mortuary, 1900 North Chester Ave. Graveside services will be held on 
September 22nd, 11:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd. 
There will be a celebration of Slada's life following the services at 
Noble Park, 700 South P Street. The family would like to express our 
sincerest appreciation to the staff and doctors at Evergreen 
Healthcare, and a special thank you to Hoffmann Hospice. Slada Smith
