Sherrill SAN ANTONIO, Texas — John D. Sherrill, retired United States Air Force Major of San Antonio, Texas, died Friday, March 7, 2003, in Wilford Hall Hospital in San Antonio after a lengthy illness. Graveside service, with full military honors, was held Tuesday in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Arrangements were under the direction of Sunset Northwest Funeral Home of San Antonio. John was born June 8, 1926, in Velma. He served in World War II, in the Korean War and on two tours in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1966. He was a member of Army Masonic Lodge No. 1105, AF & AM, a member of the Scottish Rite of San Antonio and a member of the Alzafar Shrine Temple of San Antonio. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carolyn; a son, Alan Sherrill and his wife, Janna, of Downingtown, Pa., and their children, Matthew and Daniel; a son, Charles Sherrill of Biloxi, Miss.; a daughter, Elda Marie Sherrill of Biloxi; his mother, Dovie Floy Sherrill of Duncan; three brothers, William E. Sherrill and his wife, Doris, of Duncan, James Sherrill and his wife, Janice, of Goldthwaite, Texas, and Jackie Sherrill and his wife, Peggy, of Starkville, Miss.; four sisters, Geraldine Martin and her husband, Jesse, of Duncan; Betty Stanley and her husband, Herman, of Goldthwaite, Margaret Tiemann of Goldthwaite, and Carolyn Nixon and her husband, Bill, of Anaheim, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William E.
