Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. ========= Duncan Banner 16 Apr 2003 Dovie Floy Sherrill, 98, of Duncan, went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 14, 2003, at Country Club Care Nursing Home in Duncan. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, the Rev. Bill Sherrill of Checotah, and her great- grandson, the Rev. Jesse Ray Martin of Austin, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Duncan Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Sherrill was born Aug. 8, 1904, in Ara, Indian Territory, Oklahoma, to Thomas Jefferson and Ada Brazeal. She married William Elbert Sherrill on Nov. 23, 1922, near Arthur, and of this marriage eight children were born. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1973. Mrs. Sherrill lived in Stephens County most of her life, moving to Duncan in the early 1940s. She was a charter member of Highland Park Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge, a charter resident of Duncan Plaza, moving there in 1980, and a member of the Gatlin Home Demonstration Club. She was an LPN having worked at the Weedn, Lindley, Patterson Hospitals in Duncan and Crippled Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City. She also did private nursing in and around Duncan for many years. Mrs. Sherrill was an avid quilter. She made quilts for all her children and grandchildren. The latter years of her life she spent crocheting, making sure that all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends had some of her crochet treasures. Survivors include three sons, William E. Sherrill and his wife, Doris, of Duncan, James C. Sherrill and his wife, Janice, of Goldthwaite, Texas, and Jackie W. Sherrill and his wife, Peggy, of Starksville, Miss.; four daughters, Geraldine Martin and her husband, Jesse, of Duncan, Betty Stanley and her husband, Herman, and Margarette Tiemann, all of Goldthwaite, and Carolyn Kay Nixon and her husband, Bill, of Anaheim, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sherrill of San Antonio, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Inez Osborne of Duncan. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ret. Maj. John D. Sherrill; two brothers, W.T. Brazeal and Delbert Brazeal; a sister, Cleta Faye Burum; a son-in-law, Melvin W. Tiemann; and two grandsons, Gregory Sherrill and David H. Stanley. Bearers will be Dub Gregston, Larry Martin, Dale Anderson, James Franks, Fred Shelton and Paul Wagnon. Honorary bearers are a grandson, Braxton Sherrill, and great-grandsons, John Sherrill, Steven Sherrill, Greg Frame and Aaron Grace.
