All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Melba Jean Upton 1938 - 2008 Melba Jean Upton was taken from us swiftly on Friday, November 7, 2008. Melba moved to Bakersfield from Duncan, OK, and soon met her sweetheart, her husband of 52 years, Garland Andrew, who preceded Melba in death in September 2006. Melba raised four children during which time her primary interest was that of homemaker. She volunteered both in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts and for a short time with San Joaquin Hospital. Melba's love was always settling in to make a house a home and was adept at sewing home decor and made her children's clothing when they were young. In later years, Melba relished the joyful times when her sisters gathered to cook and work on craft projects while the men played Pinochle. Melba is survived by sons, Roger of Bakersfield and Brad, and wife, Tina, of Bakersfield; daughters, Phyllis Gattian and husband, Jon of Tehachapi, and Brenda Meyers and husband, Keith of Denver, CO; nine grandchildren, Alexandra, Kristen, Rachelle, Andrea, Steven, Rene, Robyn, Justin and Stephanie; great- grandchild, Sophia; brother, Melvin Joslin and wife, Nita; sisters, Joyce Ferguson and Maxine Daniel and husband, Eldon; and is preceded in death by parents, Jess and Ethel Joslin; siblings, Elton Joslin, Ruel Joslin, Alva Joslin, Genelda Peck, Mae Beasley, Earlene Barron, and Hazel Joslin. Family and friends will remember Melba's life on Thursday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane, with graveside service immediately following. A lunch reception will be held at Calvary Chapel Westbrook, 6501 Schirra Court. Viewing is Wednesday, November 12, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Melba's sisters, Maxine and Joyce, for their loving help whenever there was need.
