Wheat MARLOW — Funeral for Bill G. Wheat, 67, Marlow, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Marlow First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Ligon and Eugene Brown officiating. Mr. Wheat died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at a Lawton hospital. Burial will be at Marlow Cemetery under direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home, Marlow. He was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Stonewall, to Thomas Buren Wheat and Ruby Gertrude Sawyers Wheat. In 1954, he graduated from Marlow High School where he played football. When he was a senior, he was president of the Marlow FFA. He was an honorary chapter and state farmer for the Marlow FFA. He attended Cameron College, and was a World War II Army veteran. He married Shirley Noel Reed on May 28, 1983, in Marlow. He owned Cable Meat in Marlow from 1967 to 1995, and was semi-retired. He received awards for outstanding leadership from, and was on the board of directors for, the American Association of Meat Processors and the Oklahoma and Texas Meat Processors Association. He and his wife received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Meat Processors. He lived in the Marlow area most of his life, and was a member of Marlow First Baptist Church. He served on the church financial committee, and was a member of Marlow Lions Club, the Marlow Century Club and the Red Red Rose. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Cori Wheat, Marlow; two brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Nancy Wheat, Tulsa; and Tom and Kathy Wheat, Marlow; two grandchildren: Jake and Allison Wheat, both of Marlow; two nephews and their wives: Bryan and Angie Noel, Canyon, Texas; and Johnny and Lisa Wheat, Tulsa; three nieces: Beth Wheat, Tulsa; and Jenny Wheat and Jodie Wheat, both of Stillwater; and three great-nieces and nephews: Parker, Payton and Preston Noel, all of Canyon, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Buren Wheat; and a brother, Leroy Wheat.
