She died June 1, 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 96. Gertrude attended high school in Cheyenne. In October 1925, she married J.W. (Bill) Woods, of Duncan, Oklahoma. To this union was born five children. They lived in Cheyenne until the 1950's when they moved to Arizona. Gertrude was a homemaker who cared for the family freely and lovingly. She was the comforting grandmother, loving mother, dutiful daughter and faithful wife. "A voice stilled but will always be 'heard' by her family." She was the last in her generation of the Martin's. Her grandson, Grant Woods, wrote a song, 'Emeline', dedicated to her. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. Gertrude was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; daughter Fostena, son Billy Don; 2 grandsons Jeff Miller and Michael Cross and his wife and son. Two brothers Clarence and Lloyd Lee Martin. She is survived by her son, Joe Woods and wife Nina, two daughters, Patsy (Morrie) Edwards, Ann (Fred) Conway, all of Mesa, Arizona; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Memorial services were held June 7, 2004 in the Garden Chapel of Bunkers Mortary, Mesa, Arizona. Intermewnt at Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Relatives of Cheyenne are a sister-in-law Ruby Martin, nephew Gary Martin and family and cousin Floyd Hamon. Attending the services in Mesa, Arizona was her nice Mary Martin Hawthorne of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
