Mamie was born Sept. 23, 1908, in Haskell, Texas, to Charles and Ethel Jones. She married James R. Watson in April 1956, and he preceded her in death in 1979. She received her teacher's certificate from Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas. She retired in 1978 after serving as a teacher, United States Postal Clerk and insurance clerk in Haskell County. She lived in Knox City, Texas, prior to moving to Duncan in 1983. Mamie was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Her church activities had high priority in her life. She sang in the choir and held a number of committee offices in her church, the last one being communion steward. She had a deep faith in God and always tried to live her life according to his commandments. Her interests were music, quilting, reading, piano, puzzles and time spent with her family and friends. Mamie was always doing God's work to the end of her life. She took care of her brother and two of her sisters when they became ill. She visited the sick and always cooked more than she could eat to share with her sick friends and relatives. She ran errands, sent cards and shared whatever she had with others. She made quilts and everyone got a quilt from Aunt Mamie. She was giving even in death. Her wishes were that her body be donated to medical science at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. She had no children but was delightfully blessed with nieces and nephews who are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of her sisters, Edith and Allene.
