Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at Fletcher First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Pompkins officiating. Burial will be held in the Marlow Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home. ========= Marlow Review 20 Oct 2005 Gaines Spencer Walker, 78, of Marlow, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, in Duncan. Services were held Friday, Oct. 14, at the First Baptist Church in Fletcher with the Rev. Mike Tompkins officiating. Burial followed at the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home. Gaines was born Wednesday, June 8, 1927, in Fletcher to Gaines Hayden and Claudia Pearl (Burch) Walker. Gaines served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He attended Cameron University where he received his associates’ degree in science, then the University of Oklahoma, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Gaines married Bobbie Ruth (Collins) Walker on Nov. 22, 1951, in Marlow. He retired after 27 years of teaching science and math at Atoka and Sterling and in California at Buena Park and in the Anaheim Union High School District. He lived in Marlow from June of 1951 to 1955, before moving to Santa Ana, Calif. In 1995 the Walkers returned to Marlow where they presently live. He was a member of the Order of the Red, Red Rose, Y-Indian Guides, the Marlow American Legion, the CTA and the NEA. He started the chess club in Anaheim, Calif. Gaines was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fletcher. His parents; two sisters, Mary Wint, and Dorthy Nell Eichor; two sisters-in-law; and six brothers-in-law preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Ruth Walker, of the home; a son, Gaines Spencer Walker, Jr.; two brothers, John D. Walker of Rush Springs, and Roy C. Walker of Oklahoma City; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Annie and Neal Brown of Oklahoma City, Dolores Herrin of Fletcher, Toye and Jim Yoder, and Joye and Bill Livingston, all of Chickasha; three sisters-in-law, Joan Collins and Mary Lou Collins of Marlow, and Jean Hester of Santa Ana, Calif.; 11 nieces; 12 nephews; and numerous great- nieces and -nephews. Pallbearers were Burt Herrin, Dick Herrin, Todd Herrin, James Spencer Yoder, Bill Holden and David Harrison.
