Balzer HOOKER, Okla. - Jacob F. Balzer, 97, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Adams Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams with the Rev. Tim Sullivan and the Rev. Frank Huebert officiating. Burial will be in Adams Mennonite Brethren Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla. Mr. Balzer was born in Inman, Kan., and moved to Hooker in 1906. He was a member of the Hooker Mennonite Brethren Church (later the Adams Mennonite Brethren Church) where he served as Sunday school teacher, church secretary, correspondent for the Zionsbote publication and as a representative for the Mennonite Hilfs-Plan. Mr. Balzer was a farmer and carpenter. After retiring in 1971, he served for two years with the Mennonite Brethren Missions and Services at the Home for the Aged in Corn. In 1993, he moved to Hillsboro, Kan. He married Lydia Plett in 1965. His first marriage was to Olga Friesen in 1928. He was preceded in death by Olga in 1964 and an infant son, Donald Dean Balzer. Survivors include his wife; five children, Joelle Balzer of Prairieville, La., Elnadine Balzer of Larned, Kan., Ronald Balzer of Broken Arrow, Howard Balzer of Buhler, Kan., and Ted Balzer of McPherson, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggest memorials be to M.C.C., or the Mennonite Brethren Missions and Services which may be left at the funeral home.
