All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Ruby Lasswell Bennett CLAUDE - Ruby Lasswell Bennett, 88, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with Garvin McCarrell, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo, and the Rev. Kermit Sorrells, son-in-law of Mrs. Bennett, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Bennett was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Tyrone, Okla., and had been an Armstrong County resident most of her adult life. She married John Forrest Bennett on March 25, 1936, in Claude. She was a member of Fairview Community Center Association and a longtime member of Claude Business Women, where she was formerly named Woman of the Year. She was active in 4-H and Armstrong County Demonstration Club. In the mid-1970s, she was named Citizen of the Year by Claude Lions Club. She was a longtime member of Claude First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 10, 1991; four brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Beth Sorrells and husband, Kermit of Coleman; four sons, Murray Bennett and wife, Betty, of Claude, Nathan Bennett and wife, Nancy, of Arlington, Gordon Bennett and wife, Ruby, of Farmington, N.M., and Richard Bennett and wife, Phyllis, of Stinnett; 14 grandchildren, Sherri Pernell, Kevin Bennett, Betsy Weaver, Russell Bennett, Natalie Bennett, Lori Newsome, Connie Bennett, Catrina Jensen, Christy Bennett, J.C. Bennett, Richard Bennett, Sandra Green, Philip Sorrells and David Sorrells; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great- grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will be her grandsons.
