Burdge, 72, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Tom Lee officiating. Burial was in Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Burdge was born and raised in the Hooker community. He graduated from Hooker High School in 1943. He joined the Marines later that year, serving as a corporal in Hawaii. After his discharge in 1946, he attended PAMC. He joined his father and brother in management of Hooker Hardware Co., which he continued for 50 years. Mr. Burdge was employed as a mail carrier from 1991 until his death. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, treasurer for 20 years and as deacon. Mr. Burge was a charter member of Hooker Lions Club, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the American Legion. He was responsible for raising funds for the current Legion Hall. He was a volunteer firefighter and scorekeeper for the Hooker Bulldog basketball team from 1946 until 1995. He was named to the Hooker School Hall of Fame He married Weldene Elaine Wadley in 1948 at Tyrone. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Andi Brankel of Claremore; a brother, George Burdge; a sister, Nellie Hammack; and two granddaughters. The family request memorials be to the First Baptist Church of Hooker building fund which will be accepted by the funeral home.
