Camp, 93, died Saturday May 7, 2005 in Oklahoma City, OK. Melvin was born April 12, 1912, to Albert and Helen Mae Camp in Columbia, SC. He attended schools in TX and OK and graduated from Central High School, Oklahoma City, OK and lived most of his adult years in Texhoma and Guymon, OK. He was a resident of Oklahoma City for the past 16 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife Elaine Rizley Camp on Oct. 31, 1984 and his second wife Grace Feller Camp on Sept. 1, 2001, and sisters Helen Thomas and Mary Barlow. Melvin was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and past member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, Guymon, and was an active member in church and in the Guymon Lions Club. Melvin was a World War II veteran, serving in the European Theatre, and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Sojourner member, and lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was Treasurer of Texas County, OK from 1970 to 1986. He was an office manager for public electric and gas utility companies in Texhoma and Guymon and employed several years by Tyler Feed Store of Guymon. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Camp, Orangeburg, SC; his daughter Melinda Johnson and her husband Jerry, Guymon; stepdaughter Grace Marie Feller, Oklahoma City, OK; his son, Melvin Camp, Jr. and his wife Kathy, Sherman, TX, and Murry Camp and his wife Karen, Fredericksburg, VA; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, at 2:00 p.m., Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 6th & Roosevelt, Guymon, OK. Private interment will be held at Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Memorials may be given to a charity of choice, c/o Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.
