Col. Joseph Dunn Gilmore, 91, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. George Needham, United Methodist minister, Norman, officiating. Mr. Gilmore died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 in Lawton. Burial with military honors will be in Fort Sill Post Cemetery. Col. Gilmore was born July 7, 1911, in Tyrone to Herbert and Laura Gilmore. He married Helen L. Taliaferro on March 17, 1935 in Marlow. She died July 17, 1997. He was raised in Tyrone and attended the University of Oklahoma in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps. He received his commission in 1934 and was called to active duty in 1940. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He retired from the Army in 1960 and began working at the Twin Oaks Bowling center at Fort Sill. He ran the pro shop and coached the youth bowling league. At the time of his death he was the oldest sanctioned bowler in Oklahoma, according to the American Bowling Congress. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Miller, Lawton; two granddaughters: Lora Arico and Sandra Bailey, both of Oklahoma City; five great- grandchildren: Brad, Tracey, Tony, Mark and Jeremy; three brothers: George Gilmore, Goodwill; Harry Gilmore, Norman; and Carelle Gilmore, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
