All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Amarillo Globe News 5 April 1998 Emmitt Harley Hughey GUYMON, Okla. - Emmitt Harley Hughey, 79, died Thursday, April 2, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. John Godby of Grace Southern Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Hughey was born in Hardesty and attended school there. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps with the WPA where he helped build the Fort Supply dam, the gas plant at Optima and the road between Woodward and Guymon. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1949, Mr. Hughey moved to Guymon from Hooker. He was a printer with the Guymon Daily Herald and retired from the paper in 1985. He was a member of No Man's Land Senior Citizens Center. He married Helen Olga Shields in 1940 at Amarillo. She died in 1992. Survivors include his sons, J. Hughey of Bartlesville and Lloyd Burton of Weatherford; a brother, Stanley McKinley of Hooker; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
