Leonard Francis Hansen Resident of Concord Leonard Francis Hansen was born in Grand Valley, Oklahoma, on May 10, 1923 to Lawrence Peter Hansen and Sarah Michael Hansen. He attended school in Pritchett, Colorado, until the 11th grade, when he quiet to join the 22nd Marines. After boot camp in San Diego, he was sent to Camp Pendleton for overseas training. Leonard was sent to the Solomon Islands for 18 months and became severely ill and was sent back to the U.S. for nearly a year, recovering at the San Diego Naval Hospital. In February 1944, Leonard met his wife, Elsie, on the dance floor in San Diego. They both danced four to five nights a week at the local USO's. They married on August 26, 1944, in Chula Vista, California. With the war ending, Leonard was sent to San Francisco with the Guard Detachment and remained there until his Honorable Discharge in February 1946. The family remained in San Francisco and 22 years later moved to Concord, where they have resided for the past 39 years. Leonard worked for PG&E for over 33 years, retiring in May 1985. After retiring, Leonard worked repairing medical equipment and tinkering in his cherished shed. Leonard is survived by his dear lovely wife, Elsie; son Kenneth of Concord; and daughters Karen of Pittsburg and Kimberly of Concord; also Leonard's sisters, Katherine Kahler of San Ramon, Helen Hansen of Fremont and Anna Cooper from Oregon. Leonard has 6 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 4000 Concord Blvd., Concord. Reception will follow at the residence of Kenneth Hansen, 3881 La Vista Court, Concord. Maps will be provided at the service. The family is requesting any memorial gifts to be given to First Lutheran Church, 4000 Concord Blvd., Concord, CA, or the Respite Inn (which provides special adults weekend care), at 906 Lee Lane, Concord, CA 94518.
