George Tillman McDaniel Sr.

TEXHOMA, Okla. - George Tillman McDaniel Sr., 83, died Wednesday, July 16, 
1997, in Spearman, Texas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in United Methodist Church with the 
Rev. Dane Lemmons officiating. Burial will be in the Texhoma, Texas, 
Cemetery by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home.

Mr. McDaniel was born near Texhoma. He attended school and graduated from 
the eighth grade at Sunnyside near Texhoma. He graduated from Texhoma High 
School in 1931 and attended Panhandle A&M College for two years before 
transferring to Oklahoma A&M, where he graduated in 1935 with a degree in 
animal husbandry. He played football in high school and at Panhandle A&M.

He was employed as an extension agent in Beaver County and later worked 
with the Farm Credit Administration in Wichita, Kan.

He married Irene Peebles in 1941 at Wichita.

After several government positions, Mr. McDaniel returned to his father's 
farming and ranching interests and became a partner with his father, 
George Walter.

He was an active member of the Methodist church and a member of Texhoma 
Masonic Lodge No. 382, where he had received his 50-year pin. He was a 
certified lecturer, a 32nd Degree Mason of the Guthrie Consistory and a 
Shriner of the India Temple at Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John Martin of Clackamas, Ore.; and two 
grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to the Texhoma Education Foundation c/o 
the funeral home.
