Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Guymon Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Terry Armstrong officiating and the Rev. Dave Hoover ministering in music. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mrs. Powell was born near Sterling, Kan. In 1930, at the age of 16, she graduated as salutatorian from Elkhart, Kan., High School. She graduated from business college in Dodge City, Kan., in 1932 and then returned to Elkhart. She was employed as an accountant at Elkhart Mill. After her marriage, Mrs. Powell assisted her husband in farming and ranching. She was an active member of the Guymon Church of the Nazarene. For more than 40 years, she was active in the rural, interdenominational Glenrose Church and the Eva Community Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and coordinated children's Bible studies. In 1975 and 1976, Mrs. Powell served as state president of the Oklahoma Extension Homemakers Council. She also was honored by that organization as Homemaker of the Year. She was state representative at regional and national women's conferences and events. In 1976, Guymon honored Mrs. Powell as Woman of the Year for her years in civic service. She was a longtime member of the Guymon Rose Club where she served as local and district president. She coordinated many Guymon beautification projects, was active in Sigma Phi Women's sorority, served as county and state 4-H leader for more than 30 years and served with Loves and Fishes Food Pantry. She married Kenneth Theodore David Powell in 1935. He died in 1975. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Theodore "Ted" Powell of Guymon; three daughters, Mary Jane Northrup of Northridge, Calif., and Melinda Veres and Kristy Patterson, both of Guymon; a brother, Arden Nusser of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today and from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Henson-Novak Funeral Home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be to a scholarship fund in Mrs. Powell's honor and may be sent to the funeral home at P.O.
